VIRGINIA BRADLEY: POURING MOLTEN PEWTER

VIRGINIA BRADLEY STUDIO SERIES

Painter Virginia Bradley demonstrates her process using molten metals in her Catena series.   Catena, refers to related moments or an interlocking chain. In the context of Bradley's work, Catena refers to the chain of chemical reactions and physical engagements that are the continuum of the artist's painting practice. Startin in August of 2020, the Catena Series  traverses a wide territory with the common denominator being a horizon that is sometimes obvious or buried beneath the surface of the image. The Catena Series is comprised of eight 48” x 36” x 2.5” birch panels. This video demonstrates the artist pouring pewter into a detail of the painting, Catena 4. A chance biomorphic form emerged and became an opportunity for the artist to develope a symbolic carving that becomes a receptical for the molten pewter.  The painting became an organic adventure into a new multilayered, surrealistic image.
